Veteran cop named new Lake County undersheriff

A veteran police officer and administrator has been named Lake County's new undersheriff.

David D. Hare, formerly the chief of operations in the Lake County sheriff's office, has been promoted to the post, effective Friday, according to a news release from Sheriff Mark Curran.

In his new role, Hare will oversee the day-to-day operations of the sheriff's office.

Hare succeeds Raymond J. Rose as undersheriff. Rose retired in April.

Hare has been with the sheriff's office since September 2016. He previously had worked for the Round Lake Beach Police Department since 1992 and served as its chief for two years.

Hare also is an adjunct instructor at Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety, where he teaches management-level police administration courses.

Curran also announced he's merged the chief of operations and chief of administration posts into one new job: chief of law enforcement and community services.

Jonathan Petrillo will serve as the first person in that position. Petrillo, who had been the chief of administration, will oversee highway patrol, criminal investigations, court security and other personnel.

"I believe our reorganization will streamline and enhance our operational excellence, continuing to raise the bar at the Lake County sheriff's office," Curran said in the release.
