The beverage-tax fight

Recently, the Cook County Board of Commissioners passed a sweetened beverage tax that would add a "penny-per-ounce" tax to many drinks our families purchase when grocery shopping. The unsweet part of this tax is that it punishes middle-class families like mine by forcing my tax dollars to go elsewhere instead of my family's needs.

I want to thank state Rep. Michelle Mussman for her efforts to repeal this tax through her House Bill 4083. Her bill not only eliminates Cook County's beverage tax but goes one step further by banning local governments from imposing similar taxes in the future. Please join me and Rep. Michelle Mussman's efforts to repeal this tax by adding your name her online petition. Thank you, Michelle.
