America, circa 1776: Arlington Heights students go back to colonial days
Arlington Heights fifth-graders took a step back in time Friday, experiencing a slice of colonial America in 1776.
A grassy field behind Arlington Heights Elementary District 25's administration building at 1200 S. Dunton Ave. served as a historical re-enactment tent village, complete with actors dressed in historical garb. Re-enactors portrayed different roles, including a carpenter, British grenadier, frontiersman, trapper, spinner, militia member, innkeeper and surveyor. Displays also included children's toys and games of the time.
Fred Durrenberg of Johnsburg discusses what it was like to be a surveyor in colonial times with fifth-grade students from Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 as part of an annual historical re-enactment day.
