Museum offers lecture on cemetery art symbolism

The Arlington Heights Historical Museum will present a lecture program titled "Historic Cemetery Art Symbolism" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 110 W. Fremont St., in Arlington Heights.

Cemetery researcher Laurel Mellien of Headstones and History will present a program that focuses on the rich symbolism displayed in cemeteries of the Victorian era.

Headstone art during this time period was chosen by family members to properly represent the deceased. Many clues about the lives of the dearly departed can be discovered by learning the language of cemetery art symbolism.

Tickets are $12 for Arlington Heights residents, $15 for nonresidents. For reservations, go to your local Arlington Heights Park District community center or go online and register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/ahpd; use code 13164.
