Why let liberal states determine elections?

We keep seeing columns and opinion pieces on abolishing the Electoral College and going to a popular vote. This would obviously be a dream come true for one of the two major parties.

Seems to me that whoever won the Democratic Primary would automatically become the president. Almost all of Hillary's popular vote advantage came from California. The large populations of New York and California, two very liberal dominated states, could decide all future elections without the Electoral College process. No need to hold elections in the other states. Their votes would mean very little.

The Electoral College may not be perfect, but without it, the election process would not be fair to the other less populated states.
