Rolling Meadows aldermen approve land purchase for fire station

Rolling Meadows aldermen have given final approval to the purchase of land at 3201 Algonquin Road for a new fire station.

Much like their first reading vote Sept. 12, aldermen voted 4-2 on Sept. 26 to approve a purchase contract with Judicial Drive Property Holdings LLC for the 77,195-square-foot site. Aldermen Laura Majikes and Joe Gallo were "no" votes.

The city is spending $1.3 million for the property, where the shuttered Woo Lae Oak Korean restaurant sits.

Plans calls for the aging downtown Station 15 at 3111 Meadow Drive to be closed and a new one constructed on the Algonquin Road site. Station 16 at 2455 S. Plum Grove Road would be replaced with a new station at a still-undetermined location to the east, under the fire department's estimated $9 million relocation plan.
