1 dead as fiery semi crash shuts down part of Interstate 80

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - At least one person has died in a fiery crash involving three semis along Interstate 80 southwest of Chicago.

WLS-TV reports the Tuesday morning crash has shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Joliet, and lanes were expected to remain closed until midday.

Illinois State Police say two FedEx trucks were on the right shoulder, where one truck broke down and the driver of another truck stopped to help. A third semi rear-ended them around 6:10 a.m.

Authorities say all three semis caught fire.

Miguel Fernandez was driving to work when he says he heard a loud bang and saw "a big old fireball."

Police have not identified the person killed. The driver of the semi that hit the other trucks was hospitalized with severe burns.
