Arlington Heights author to read from new children's book

On Saturday, Sept. 30, Arlington Heights author Michele Hilgart will host a reading and signing of her pre-release children's book, "Super Jack Eats His Broccoli," at the Arlington Heights Farmers Market, corner of N. Vail Avenue and Freemont Street.

The reading is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and books will be signed from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The book will also be available for sale at the farmers market for $15.

"Super Jack" Murphy is a 5-year-old superhero - at least in the magical world of his own imagination. Super Jack also plays soccer and doesn't like to eat things that are green.

Jack's world is turned upside down when one of his real-life heroes, Coach Kevin, teaches Jack that superfoods like broccoli help to make you strong and healthy. Will Super Jack be brave enough to give it a try?

This fun, colorful story takes kids right into Super Jack's imagination while teaching them about all the superfoods they can try, just like Jack.

A working mom and founder of the mom blog MakingFitFit.com, Hilgart wrote her debut children's book after struggling to get her own picky toddler to eat his vegetables.

This fun, colorful story is published by Mascot Books and will available for purchase on mascotbooks.com and through local retailers, beginning Nov. 7.

Hilgart grew up in Rolling Meadows and attended Rolling Meadows High School. She currently lives in Arlington Heights with her husband and son.
