Night life: Oartoberfest? Why not! Broken Oar celebrates with three-day bash

Oartoberfest? Why not!

There are Oktoberfest celebrations across the 'burbs, and the folks at Broken Oar have dubbed theirs Oartoberfest, a three-day celebration of German food, beer and music. Five different bands are slated to play in a rock-filled heated tent Friday through Sunday, Sept. 22-24. See Nashville Electric Company at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Modern Day Romeos at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Saturday brings three bands: The Allstars at 1 p.m., Downpour at 3:30 and Kashmir at 8:30. No cover. Broken Oar is at 614 Rawson Bridge Road, Port Barrington, (847) 639-9468, brokenoar.com.

Beer bash

It's all about the beer at Alter Brewing Company's second annual Alter Fest. The bash runs from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, and features food, games, music and, of course, beer. The $25 admission includes a commemorative glass, with $5 beers available all day. For those 21 and older. Alter Brewing is at 2300 Wisconsin Ave. #213, Downers Grove, (630) 541-9558, alterbrewing.com.

Margarita Tuesdays

Martinis may be the signature drink, but Tuesday turns the spotlight to margaritas at Elgin's Martini Room. They're $6 for a regular margarita or four minis for $20 on Tuesday, Sept. 26. You have your choice of banana, blueberry, hibiscus basil and, in honor of Fringe Fest, avocado. There's also an Aperol Berryrita made with tequila, Italian liqueur, juices, agave nectar and more. Martini Room is at 161 E. Chicago St., Elgin, (847) 741-0349, martiniroomelgin.com.
