Kindergartners take a spin on fire engine

Kindergartners at St. Joseph Catholic School in Libertyville were treated to a ride on a vintage fire engine.

As a way to build awareness about Fire Prevention Week in October, the Libertyville Fire Department offers rides to children in the local schools. Kindergartners took a ride around the neighborhood on the 1946 LaFrance fire engine and waved to passers-by.

This special event has been a tradition at St. Joseph Catholic School for more than 10 years.

Kindergartner Nathan summed up the experience when he said, "It was cool! I loved it when the siren went off and we waved to people."
