Montana quarterback details game injury

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Montana quarterback Reese Phillips says he suffered a broken calf bone and ruptured ligaments in his foot during Montana's game against Savannah State.

Phillips, a transfer from Kentucky, says being quarterback for the Grizzlies was a dream come true and he will continue to support the team in any way he can as Gresch Jensen takes over at quarterback. Montana (2-1) hosts rival Eastern Washington (1-2) on Saturday.

Phillips released a statement through the University of Montana on Tuesday thanking his teammates, coaches and Griz fans for their support and for treating him like family.

The native of Chattanooga, Tennessee had started three games for Montana, completing 57 of 80 passes for 652 yards and four touchdowns. He had completed his first 13 passes for 148 yards on Saturday before he was injured.

He is on track to graduate in December with a journalism degree.
