Power line falls onto I-65, halting traffic in NW Indiana

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Duke Energy says a power line fell onto Interstate 65 after an excavator snagged the line while working in northwestern Indiana.

Traffic along I-65 was brought to a standstill Monday afternoon near the Indiana 26 exit in Lafayette until it was deemed safe for utility crews to remove the fallen line.

State Police say all of the highway's lanes later reopened to traffic.

Duke Energy spokesman Dan Rhodes tells The Journal & Courier the power line fell onto I-65 about 1:30 p.m. Monday after the excavator snagged it in a work zone along the highway.

He says the power line accident cut power to the area after the line fell and later when crews made a final repair to the line.
