Business consultant launches bid for Ind. congressional seat

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A business consultant who bills himself as a "conservative outsider" will run for an open eastern Indiana congressional seat.

Stephen MacKenzie announced a Republican primary bid Monday for the sixth congressional district seat once held by Vice President Mike Pence.

Republican Rep. Luke Messer represents the district. But he's giving it up to run for Senate.

The vice president's brother Greg Pence is considering a run for the seat. State Sen. Mike Crider has also announced a bid.

Mackenzie says he's served in the Air Force Reserve since 2001. His campaign says he has a bachelor's degree from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, and an M.B.A. from Drexel University.

MacKenzie unsuccessfully challenged Republican Rep. Susan Brooks in the 2016 fifth congressional district primary.
