Local grant shows why government's so big
While reading the article, "Grant allows students dig into fresh produce," I thought; now there's a good use of grant money.
But, then, I had an epiphany: This is why government is so huge!
This second thought was the impetus for this letter.
Why on earth, I asked myself, was it necessary for our federal government, based in Washington, D.C., to fund a program for children in the nation's breadbasket and Corn Belt, so that they could eat fresh produce. It seems to me that we local folks should, and certainly could, see to that. Why do we depend on those far-distant, and too-far-reaching entities to pronounce their blessing upon us to do that which we are locally, and certainly more efficiently, capable of?
If we want our tax dollars to go further, then we must step up and become responsible for ours, and begin whittling down this gross behemoth, Uncle Sam.
