Indianapolis fire officer injured after fall through roof

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis fire officer is recovering after being knocked unconscious when he fell through a roof at a house fire.

Battalion Chief Rita Reith (ryt) says 45-year-old Capt. Brian T. White was hospitalized in stable condition following his injury Thursday morning.

She says the 22-year veteran regained consciousness while being transported to a hospital and was alert and talking to doctors there.

Reith says White was about to enter a second-story window from a porch roof when he stopped to remove a piece of plywood from the exterior. She says the roof gave way and White fell about 10 feet, landing on his head.

Reith says White is the executive officer of his battalion and his duties include providing information from inside a burning structure to a battalion chief outside.
