New director named for Village of Antioch Parks and Recreation

ANTIOCH, Ill. - Robbie Spencer has been named director of parks and recreation for the Village of Antioch (www.antioch.il.us). Spencer was introduced and recognized at the August 16 Village Board Meeting, where he shared his enthusiasm and passion for parks and recreation.

"I am excited to be on board. The Village of Antioch's Parks and Recreation provides outstanding benefits to the community--programs for all ages and interests, events, activities, ways to get involved and stay connected," said Spencer. "I look forward to working with my team and leadership to continue to bring the best quality of life to our residents and participants."

Spencer, an Ohio native, brings with him a wide-array of experience and skills in his "toolkit," including serving as the youngest director of parks and recreation in his most recent position in Tennessee. He also brings a depth of athletic programming and coaching expertise, for middle and high school athletics, as well as sports officiating. He has created youth and municipal programming opportunities, and was key to sourcing funds for parks facilities and grants to underwrite events. Spencer is a member of Illinois Park and Recreation Association (www.ilipra.org), and the National Recreation and Park Association (www.nrpa.org), featured in its quarterly publication, Young Professionals.

Spencer began his career with the Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department {Bradenton, Florida) as recreation/facility coordinator. He later served as athletic director/assistant director for the Sheridan Recreation District {Sheridan, Wyoming). Most recently, he was director of parks and recreation for the City of Lakeland {Tennessee). He graduated from Ohio University, earning a B.S. in Recreation Management. He was also a Division 1/Mid-American Conference football player, receiving the team's All-Bobcat Award. He is Recreation leadership and Tennessee Parks and Recreation Certified.

Spencer enjoys staying active, whether with programs like those offered at Antioch, a game with neighbors, or a ball toss with his son, Jett. He and his wife, Brittany, Jett, and dog, Tahoe, are enjoying learning about and exploring their new community.
