Naperville Park District opening four renovated playgrounds

Naperville Park District will celebrate the reopening of four renovated playgrounds on four consecutive Tuesdays, from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3.

Neighbors are invited to bring their families and friends to participate in a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 5 p.m., enjoy refreshments and giveaways, and explore the new play equipment.

"These renovated playgrounds, along with nearly 70 other playgrounds throughout Naperville, provide outdoor recreation close to home, and are an important part of the park district's annual capital projects," Director of Planning Eric Shutes said.

"Residents helped choose the playground pieces, which are designed to be accessible, safe and fun for all kids."

The district renovated five playgrounds in 2017, including the one at Country Lakes Park, which officially opened on Sept. 6.

The district also contributed toward a cooperative playground being renovated by Naperville Unit District 203 at Ranch View Elementary School.

In addition, the district is constructing a playground at Atwater Park, a new park at 1616 Capeside Drive on the city's northwest side.

Here are dates and locations of the four planned playground reopening celebrations:

• Sept. 12 at Columbia Estates Park, 968 Monticello Drive;

• Sept. 19 at Huntington Ridge Park, 1523 Culpepper Drive;

• Sept. 26 at Pembroke Commons, 1132 Kenilworth Circle; and

• Oct. 3 at Summerfield Lake at the intersection of Stockton Toad and Horncastle Lane.

In the event of inclement weather, the celebrations will be rescheduled for the following day.
