Hoffman Estates hosts 12th Platzkonzert Germanfest

The village of Hoffman Estates will host its 12th annual Platzkonzert Germanfest on the Village Green Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9.

The two-day celebration of German culture is a family favorite, with free entry, entertainment, parking and a play area for the kids.

The fun begins at 5 p.m. Friday with German food and Bavarian beers as The Musikmeisters blend traditional German tunes with rock favorites in the Oompah tent. The village, in collaboration with the on-site Hoffman Estates Beer Garden, will offer a variety of Hofbräu products, including their seasonal Oktoberfest beer.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Visit the Oompah tent stage for entertainment from the Internationals, the Johnny Wagner Band and the HOTT Productions Dancers. Enjoy bratwurst and German potato salad while touring the Audi of Hoffman Estates car display, and learn about German heritage at the library and farm exhibits.

Participate in Saturday's wiener-eating, stein-carrying and Mr. Lederhosen best legs contests. Close out the day with the Mike Schneider Band playing a mix of German music and popular hits.

The Virginia Mary Hayter Village Green is at 5510 Prairie Stone Parkway, off Route 72 in the Prairie Stone Business Park next to the Sears Centre Arena.
