1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program Starts September 19 at Palatine Library
Palatine Library is pleased to offer the new 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program to District cardholders from birth until entering Kindergarten, starting September 19. This program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000 book goal in three years and provide their children with essential early literacy skills, help close the vocabulary gap, and promote a lifelong love of books and reading.
The program is simple, every time you read a book with your child, mark it off on the reading log - for every hundred you read, your child receives a sticker. Reach 1,000 books and your child receives his/her own book and an invitation to a graduation ceremony! The supportive parent/caregiver receives a special gift, too! Visit the Reader Assistance Desk at the Main Library or either Branch beginning Tuesday, September 19 to sign-up and pick up your free 1000 Books Before Kindergarten materials.
Enjoy these fun events to help kick-off the program. Miss Jamie visits Tuesday, September 19, 10:00 - 10:45 a.m., to learn about animals and life on the farm with songs and dance. All ages. Tickets available September 12 for valid District cardholders.
Show us your moves at our Dance Party, Wednesday, September 20, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., and have some treats as we celebrate your goal to read 1,000 books. All ages.
