Study: Quincy University has $53M impact in west Illinois

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - A new study finds that Quincy University has a $53 million influence on a six-county area in western Illinois.

The private liberal arts Catholic University commissioned a manager with the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs' Rural Economic Technical Assistance Center to do the study. The three-month study used university and government data to make the determination about the value to Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike, Scott and Morgan counties.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that the university is about a year into a financial recovery plan after a $5 million budget shortfall.

The study found the university employs 231 full and part-time faculty and staff and had 2016 operating revenues of $21.4 million. Data also show the university's 900 students spent an average nearly $3,400 off campus, or about $3 million overall.
