North Dakota State opens with high-powered offense, 72-7

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Ty Brooks, RJ Urzendowski and Lance Dunn each scored two touchdowns in North Dakota State's season-opening 72-7 defeat of Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Brooks dashed for TD runs of 6 and 36 yards on consecutive scoring drives in the second quarter, finishing with 127 yards on 11 carries. Urzendowski put the Bison, a perennial FCS powerhouse, on the board barely four minutes into the game, grabbing a 47-yard pass from Easton Stick. Dunn, the game's leading rusher with 142 yards, scored from the 24 in NDSU's 30-point first quarter, and raced a career-best 73 yards to score on the second play after halftime.

The Bison rolled to 683 yards total offense, while holding the Delta Devils to 58 thanks to five sacks, 11 tackles for loss and an interception.

Christopher Fowler scored MVSU's lone TD.

The Bison travel to Eastern Washington next week, a meeting of last season's No. 1- and No. 2-seeded teams in the FCS playoffs.
