One charged after scuffle with police in Round Lake Park

A 43-year-old Round Lake Park man is held in Lake County jail after fighting with police, striking a woman and threatening a person with a pellet gun, authorities said Friday.

Jason D. McSorely, of the 100 block of Model Court, is charged with a felony count of aggravated battery to a police officer, and misdemeanor counts of resisting a peace officer, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

McSorely remains in jail on $50,000 bail, authorities said.

Filenko said police were called to McSorely's house at 5:41 p.m. Thursday for a report of an intoxicated man armed with a rifle who had threatened the caller.

Police went to the house and met a 48-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man who informed officers that McSorely was highly intoxicated, had hit the woman, and pointed a gun at the man, Filenko said.

Officers observed McSorely through a window seated in a kitchen area with no weapon nearby, so they made quick entry into the house as one officer distracted McSorely, Filenko said.

McSorely was detained after officers entered the residence and he charged them while repeatedly saying, "shoot me," Filenko said.

Two rifles recovered at the house were pellet guns, he said.

McSorely's next court date is unknown.
