Visit Lake Zurich for its Rock the Block

The Village of Lake Zurich is preparing to host its annual downtown block party, Rock the Block, from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in the heart of downtown Lake Zurich.

The event is held on Main Street, between Old Rand Road and Church Street, in downtown Lake Zurich. Main Street will be closed from Church Street to Old Rand beginning at 11 a.m. on the day of the event.

Rock The Block is an outdoor festival where attendees can dine, dance and discover downtown Lake Zurich. Three live bands will take the stage for an evening of music, food, and fun for adults. Younger partygoers can visit the children's area in Lions Park for free face painting and balloon art from 5-7 p.m.

Musical entertainment will play on a covered stage on the corner of Old Rand Road and Main Street. Three bands will perform during the festival. The night begins with Rockstar Rodeo at 5 p.m., then Boy Band Review switches it up at 7 p.m. and regional favorite 7th heaven will take fans home with their unique mix of classic, pop, and alternative rock at 9 p.m.

Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to donate five unopened, nonperishable food items to help restock Emmaus House and the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

Anyone donating food will receive a raffle ticket to win prizes, which include local establishment gift certificates, Chicago Blackhawks tickets and dinner for four at Mr. Bentley's Diversey Yacht Club and an autographed helmet from Kyle Long of the Chicago Bears.

Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Drop off donations and purchase additional raffle tickets at the donation drop-off area next to the beer ticket sales booth on Main Street.

Volunteers from the U.S. Navy will be on hand to sort donated items. One hundred percent of all raffle proceeds will benefit the food pantry. Every dollar raised equals five meals the pantry can provide.

Food trucks and local restaurants will set up along Main Street selling a variety of food options, including full meals, desserts, and snacks. No outside alcohol is allowed and those wishing to consume alcohol will need to have their ID checked and purchase a wristband for $1.

Beer tickets will be available for purchase at $4 for standard brands and $6 for craft beers. All wine and other alcoholic beverages are $6. Food vendors will sell water and soda.

No outside food, beverages, or coolers will be allowed into the event. Pets are also not allowed.

Rock The Block is the result of a continued effort by Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton and the village trustees to host fun special events for the community.
