Eagle Scout installs steppingstones project in Prospect Heights

When it came time for Sam Sobczak to find an Eagle Scout project, he did not have to look farther than his own backyard.

A veteran of several Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission volunteer work days, Sobczak loves being outdoors and working for the common good, so working on something everyone could appreciate combined with nature was obvious.

Upon learning the Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission was working on a grant funded restoration project involving the creek behind the Gary Morava Center, Sobczak volunteered to tackle the biggest of the Morava Nature Preserve's challenges, an interactive bridge to span the creek bed.

Taking the lead, Sobczak reached out to the architectural firm of Chipman Design Architecture, who volunteered their services in the design of the bridge.

After working through design and funding issues, a steppingstone design was agreed upon. The project also includes the building of stairs to make access to the steppingstones easier.
