Experience 1840s life at Tavern Day

Area residents can experience what life was like in the 1840s at Stacy's Tavern Museum's Tavern Day Celebration.

Organized by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, the annual event runs 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at 800 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn.

Historic Stacy's Corners becomes a pioneer village for the afternoon. Visitors can try activities such as apple peeling, vegetable gardening, roping a bed, doing laundry 1840s style, sawing, shucking corn and braiding rope. Farm animals and a horse are available for visitors to meet and pet.

Pioneer games and an old-fashioned outdoor classroom continue throughout the afternoon. Musicians stir up an atmosphere of good times. Stacy's Museum is open for tours throughout Tavern Day.

Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for Glen Ellyn Historical Society members, $4 for ages 3 to 17; and free for younger children. For information, call (630) 469-1867 or visit gehs.org.
