Boys golf: Crawford's 66 wins Viator's Tournament of Champions

St. Viator's Timmy Crawford has added another tournament title to his already impressive fall season.

Crawford shot 4-under 66 on Saturday at Old Orchard to win the St. Viator Tournament of Champions, which was being held for the 17th consecutive year.

And his round included some grace under pressure, as Crawford birdied No. 18 to edge Hinsdale Central's Mac McClean by 1 stroke.

Edwardsville's Ben Tyrell, who set the tournament record last year with a 64, finished fourth at 69, 1 stroke behind Luke Armbrust of St. Francis.

"He just gutted it out today," said St. Viator coach Jack Halpin of Crawford. "To me it looks like he is going to be on a roll the rest of the year."

Crawford was also a winner in his first tournament this fall, the Rolling Green Invitational.

Hinsdale Central took top honors in the team race by shooting 295, ahead of St. Francis (303), Loyola (306) and St. Viator White (306).

St. Charles East placed sixth and 314 and had top-10 finishers in Mason Meadows (fifth, 72) and Connor King (10th, 76).

Nick Armbrust of St. Francis placed sixth with a 75, and St. Viator also had Liam O'Neill and Nolan Doherty crack the top 10 with 76s.
