Pastor Irene Preached at Historic Methodist Campgrounds

Pastor Irene Taylor of the First United Methodist Church in Des Plaines had the honor to deliver a message in the old Des Plaines campgrounds on Algonquin road at the river on August 19. The grounds were dry, though the intended worship in the splendid historic Tabernacle had to be moved to the hotel due to the last flooding's issues. Pastor Irene's message, "Our Words Reveal What is in Our Hearts", was met by an attentive congregation from both the campgrounds and 1st UMC. It was a message of oneness encouraging faith, prayer and action based on excerpts from Romans 11 and Matthew 15:10-27. The service was officiated by the campground's Barbara Pierce. Barbara took special time to be sure those who were in need of prayer were included in the service and mentioned an upcoming worship to honor those eleven campgrounders who had died in the last year. There are charming areas in the campground as well as cottages in need of TLC. The swimming pool is under complete renovation which speaks to the continued effort to move forward.
