Sheriff's police another example of county waste

I read Mr. Nolan's letter of Aug. 20. Now let me get this straight. He's almost to Lake County when he gets an epiphany to turn around and go back to where he came from because he feels that he would be wasting gas and he gets no benefits from Lake County? Instead of going into Lake County to buy cheaper gas and soda (no Cook County tax) and then going home, he decides to turn around and go back, thus wasting gas and time and paying Cook County taxes.

Why are we paying for a service we don't need, i.e. Cook County sheriff's police? There is less than 17 square miles of unincorporated area in Cook County, They are overlapping what the municipalities are responsible for. We are paying for their salaries, pensions, squad cars, training, and miscellaneous items so Sheriff Tom Dart can have his own patronage army. He could use this personnel for the jail, and for the county forest preserves. Thus cutting the patrol division out all together. So obviously Toni Periwinkle has no clue how to balance a budget, just another typical Democrat, tax and spend.
