Christ Lutheran Church organist marks 50th anniversary

Christ Lutheran Church is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its organist Ken Spengler on Sunday, Aug. 27, at the church, 41 S. Rohlwing Road, in Palatine.

Spengler was born in Chicago and became interested in music at a very early age. However, his education is in chemistry, and he graduated from IIT, Chicago.

Spengler taught chemistry at Palatine High School for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists, The Rotary Club of Palatine, Palatine Friends of the Library, a member of the Illinois Railway Museum and Christ Lutheran PADS.

Spengler and his wife, Paula, have two daughters, Julie and Lisa, and four grandchildren.
