Rabid bat found in Arlington Heights
A rabid bat was found in an Arlington Heights neighborhood last week, officials said Tuesday.
The bat - which was later determined to be rabid following testing by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory - was found on the 200 block of West Fremont Street on Thursday, Aug. 10, according to the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control.
In a memo to village officials, department administrator Donna Alexander advised residents should keep their pets on a leash when outside and make sure rabies vaccinations are up to date. Residents should also contact the county if they find any dead bats or skunks on property or roadways.
