1st degree murder charges filed in death of Vermont woman
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Police say first degree murder charges have been filed against the former boyfriend of a Vermont woman found dead by the side of the road last month in Middlesex.
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for 61-year-old Randal Gebo, who is being held in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Gebo had previously been charged by Vermont police with stealing the car of 59-year-old Cindy Cook of Barre, whose body was found over an embankment on July 12.
Police said Tuesday the cause of Cook's death was "neck compressions."
After Cook's body's was found, Gebo was traced by police as he crisscrossed the country driving her car.
Gebo is expected to be returned to Vermont soon to face the murder and other charges.
It's unclear if Gebo has an attorney.
