Relax and reminisce Take in two parades, food and carnival rides at Summer Days in Grayslake

The Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and Industry will present Grayslake's Summer Days 2017 Friday and Saturday, Aug. 18 and 19, in downtown Grayslake at Center and Whitney streets.

The family music festival will offer activities for the entire family, music, carnival games, food vendors, a business booth area and more.

Events are scheduled from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and noon to midnight Saturday.

A bingo tent will be open from 7-10 p.m. Friday and 3-10 p.m. Saturday, sponsored by Community Trust Credit Union.

The festival features two parades, both on Saturday. The Exchange Club of Grayslake will sponsor a Bike and Pet Parade, which will step off at noon. This parade will line up on Slusser Street and head east on Park Avenue to Seymour Avenue, then north to Whitney Street.

Later that day, the Summer Days Parade will line up at Grayslake Central High School and step off at 6:30 p.m., heading south on Lake Street to Center Street and east to Whitney Street.

Go-kart races will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Seymour Avenue Parking Lot. Racers will build their own go-karts to race. For information, visit www.foundation46.org.

A Bags Tournament will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The tournament will benefit the Booster Clubs of Grayslake Central and Grayslake North high schools. For information and to enter a team, visit www.grayslakechamber.com.

In conjunction with the festival, the Grayslake Historical Society will host a "Reminisce Session" at 10 a.m. Saturday. The community is invited to share stories about the lake for which the village is named, Gray's Lake, or come just to listen. The historical society is at 164 Hawley St., Grayslake.
