Hersh scolding tells truth on 'Russiagate'

I would like to take the opportunity of using your editorial page to talk about 80-year-old Seymour Hersh, who posted a video on YouTube on Aug. 2. In case you are a young reader and are unaware, Mr. Hersh is the journalist who exposed the My Lai Massacre and cover-up during the Vietnam War, and received the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. In 2004, he reported on the U.S. military's mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib and the cover-up.

And now we have a viral video of Seymour Hersh, scaldingly angry and profane, saying between curses that "Russiagate" is a CIA-planted lie, revenge against Trump for winning the election.

Now, a sane person might feel this was a huge story and should play everywhere - and it would if the media could somehow spin it all around to blame Donald J. Trump.

And, speaking of our president, I feel just as discouraged writing this today as Mr. Hersh was the other day, just listening to his pain and broken heart. We are going to have Donald J. Trump around for eight years. Why? Because the Democratic Party will find itself hoisted` on its own petard, and unable to recover from the scandal - yet to hit the U.S. media, but playing all over the world.
