City of St. Charles recognized for support of breastfeeding moms

The City of St. Charles was recently named a Breastfeeding-Friendly Employer by the Kane County Breastfeeding Association.

The city was granted silver-level recognition by the association for their support of breastfeeding mothers in the workplace.

The city was recognized for its revamped Wellness Room, a quiet and private space in the Municipal Building for employees to take a break and de-stress, make a private phone call or pump breast milk.

The city has had a Wellness Room in the Municipal Building for more than 10 years. Recently, the room was relocated to a quieter, more private space in the lower level. There also is a Wellness Room in the Public Works facility.

"This recognition reflects the city's commitment to supporting working mothers and the choices they make for their infants," said Director of Human Resources Jennifer McMahon. "We understand the stress that comes with being a working parent, and the Wellness Room serves as a place where all employees can find comfort and peace of mind while at work."
