Schaumburg Township Disability Services hosts special picnic

Schaumburg Township Disability Services hosted an "Under the Sea" picnic for township residents with disabilities and their families on Saturday, July 15.

More than 150 guests enjoyed a lunch of the chicken fingers donated by Village Tavern and Grill in Schaumburg and frozen custard desserts donated by Barry Himmelfarb of Culver's.

DJ Eric Brandt played live entertainment as an Ariel mermaid character greeted guests and posed for pictures. State Rep. Michelle Mussman sponsored Brookfield Zoo's Animal Ambassador Program, which allowed guests to get up-close views with an ambassador animal.

Jazzi Entertainment provided face painting and a balloon artist. Shortly after lunch, everyone played bingo for a chance to win a prize donated by local businesses.

For the last several years, Illinois Telecommunications Access Corp., Village Tavern and Grill, The Schaumburg-Hoffman Lions Club, Culver's and the Schaumburg Township Foundation have sponsored the picnic.

Special thanks to the volunteers, the Schaumburg Township Highway Department, Sheriff's Work Alternative Program and the Schaumburg Park District for their ongoing support, and township employees who worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time.
