Mike O'Malley is overdue for recognition

In the July 26 edition of the Daily Herald I read the article on where the Prairie Center is getting renamed after Mayor Al Larson.

This got me to thinking about our late mayor in Hoffman Estates who too, has been long overlooked (or overdue, to quote trustee Tom Dailly on Mayor Larson in the article).

I one time had broached the subject of Hoffman Estates naming the football field on Hillcrest Road that the HEAA teams play on (they have signs on the success of those teams) and since I brought the topic up the baseball park that was formerly Highpoint Park (the name of the fields back when I coached baseball teams) has been renamed Fabbrini Park.

Why has the late Mayor Mike O'Malley been so disrespected?

When I first looked into this I was given the run-around ("This is park district not the village"). No wonder our taxes are so high, we're serving two masters each independent of each other! One more thing on that HEAA football field - at the concession stand why have they never erected a plaque with the names of the HEAA members who in the early '80s brought HEAA Football back to respectability?

Had they not done this there would be no "three-time champions" signs to look at. Those of you who were around then know of what I speak.

So, both the Hoffman Estates village and park district share equal shame (or should)! It should be called O'Malley Memorial Field.
