Families, friends enjoy SRACLC fishing derby

Submitted by the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County

The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County hosted its 27th Annual Family Day and Fishing Derby on July 26. Participants enrolled in SRACLC's Summer Day Camps invited their families to experience an entire day of camp with them.

The event took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Century Park in Vernon Hills. The campers started out their day at the campsite in Mundelein until they were shuttled over to Century Park. As participants and their families arrived, lunch was served. Afterward, there were numerous games to play such as Bozo Buckets and Duck Pond while the fishing portion of the afternoon began. Awards were handed out at the end to the participant who caught the smallest fish, biggest fish and most fish.

SRACLC was joined by the Arlington Anglers who helped participants fish while also weighing the fish and bringing them back to the lake. Mitsubishi Automation Electric's VISION Committee also joined to help hand out lunch and run the games. The Conservation Police met with participants and the Countryside Fire Department brought over a firetruck and ambulance for everyone to climb in.

The entire day was a great success as SRACLC families from across Lake County came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and variety of exciting activities. SRACLC extends thanks to everyone who came and made the 27th Annual Family Day and Fishing Derby such a success.
