Libertyville police look for car thief

Libertyville police Friday searched for the driver of a stolen vehicle who escaped Thursday night.

According to police, an officer on patrol about 8 p.m. saw a vehicle traveling fast east on Route 176 near Milwaukee Avenue, but lost sight of it. The newer-model Ford Explorer was found unoccupied on the 300 block of Broadway.

The Explorer had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Pingree Grove in Kane County. It was damaged, likely the result of it striking a street sign and a tree in the area of Route 176 and First Street and another vehicle near Route 176 and Blueberry Road, police said.

No injuries were reported.
