Waukegan woman pleads not guilty in fatal stabbing

A Waukegan woman charged with killing her boyfriend after an altercation on the Fourth of July pleaded not guilty to the charges in court Friday.

Tina L. Primm, 39, faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty on any of four counts of second-degree murder, Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti said. Primm also faces up to five years in prison if found guilty of either of the two counts of aggravated battery. The charges are also probationable.

Rossetti set Primm's tentative trial date for Sept. 18.

Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Ari Fisz said second-degree murder can be charged when the defendant has a sudden and intense provocation to commit a murder, or has an unreasonable belief that murder is justified when it is not.

Waukegan police were called to the house Primm shared with Raymond Parker in the 2200 block of Western Avenue about 9 p.m. July 4 for a reported stabbing, authorities said.

They arrived to find Parker, 42, unresponsive with stab wounds, authorities said.

Fisz said Primm and Parker were arguing, when Primm's 17-year-old daughter entered the room and also started an argument with Parker.

Parker hit the teen with an open hand, prompting Primm to stab Parker in the chest, killing him, Fisz said.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary autopsy results showed Parker suffered multiple stab wounds. Toxicology results are pending.

Primm remains in Lake County jail on $100,000 bail. She is due back in court Aug. 28 for case management.
