Block parties and fun with Elgin's National Night Out event

On Tuesday, Aug. 1, the Elgin Police Department held its annual National Night out event.

National Night Out is an annual event in Elgin that takes place every year to promote the partnership between community neighborhoods and the police.

This year, the city had a record breaking 40 individual block parties, with the main event at Festival Park which had more than 2,000 attendees.

The block parties had lots of fun and entertaining things for families and children to enjoy. They had bouncy houses, water games, free food and drinks as well as a ton of other fun things throughout the city.

Melissa Potrawski from The Salvation Army was at the block party on Spring street with a table full of free school supplies for the children to take home.

The City of Elgin was treated to a special appearance by Birdie and Hamburglar, courtesy of the Elgin McDonald's, owner/operators, The Bear Family. Thank you to officer Cherie Aschenbrenner for organizing this unforgettable event for the City of Elgin.
