Come out for corn, crafts at Rolling Meadows church

The Community Church of Rolling Meadows will hold its 61st annual Cornfest and Craft Fair Saturday, Aug. 5. The corn fest will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the craft fair starting and ending an hour earlier. Admission to the grounds is free.

The menu features all you can eat sweet corn, grown locally and picked just hours before it is boiled and smothered in butter. Also included in the ticket price is a hamburger, brat, or hot dog, relishes, grilled onions, watermelon, and beverage.

Meal tickets may be purchased at the door: adults $13; seniors $11; children ages 4-10 $6; children 3 and younger a free hot dog meal. Presale tickets are available online at communitychurchrm.com.

Seating will be "under the tent" for rain or shine enjoyment. Fresh picked sweet corn will also be bagged for sale by the dozen or half-dozen. And new this year is a drive-through to enable you to get a meal to go without getting out of your car.

The craft fair will feature many booths filled with handmade arts and crafts by area artisans, as well as other vendors. Also featured is a $2 a ticket raffle, with items including Cubs and White Sox tickets, an overnight stay at the Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wisconsin, Blackhawks jerseys, and a 50/50 cash drawing.

An expanded kids area will offer face painting and other popular activities, along with the opportunity to see police and fire vehicles.

A tradition since 1957, the event is a source of community fellowship each August. Live music will be provided throughout the day with Northwest Community Band Players at 11 a.m.; music by LaVerne at 2:30 p.m.; Frankie Miglio at 2:15 p.m.; Randy Rock at 4 p.m.; and Barb Sorensen at 5:30 p.m.

The Community Church of Rolling Meadows is at the northeast corner of Kirchoff Road and Meadow Drive. For information, call the church office at (847) 255-5510, email Myccrm@yahoo.com or visit communitychurchrm.com.
