Barrington's state legion run falls short

It looked good for Barrington Post 158 early on Friday.

Barrington rolled past Peoria Post 2 10-0 in 7 innings in the loser's bracket of the Illinois American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Rantoul on Friday. But Barrington didn't fare well in its next elimination game, losing to Danville Post 210, 10-5.

Barrington (31-4-1) ended its run by beating Peoria twice in the tournament and losing twice to Danville.

In the opening game on Friday, Barrington banged out 12 hits in their 7-inning victory.

Sean Davis, Justin Walker, Jacob Chapman and Luc Brissett each had 2 hits. Davis had a pair of doubles and Chapman also doubled and drove in a pair of runs while Eric Koxlowski tripled in a run.

Levi Palomo pitched all 7 innings fanning 10 while allowing just 3 hits.

But the tables tuned quickly for Barrington in its second game of the day.

Danville, which had 19 hits, jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 3 innings and cruised past Barrington.

Tyler Trojan had 3 hits and had a 3-run homer for Barrington. Davis, Justin Walker and Trevor Sefcik each had 2 hits for Barrington.

• In games played Thursday, both Cook County teams struggled.

Barrington Post 158 gave up 3 runs in the top of the 9th to lose to Danville Post 210 7-5. Arlington Post 208 came up short for the second day in a row and was eliminated from the double-elimination tournament by Edwardsville Post 199, 8-1.

Barrington trailed 2-0 in the fifth when Jacob Chapman led off the inning with a home run to center. After a single by Luc Bressett, Tyler Trojan belted a 2-run blast to right to put Barrington on top 3-2.

Danville rallied to lead 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh when Barrington struck again. Tristan Michaels doubled home Bresset and Trojan to put Barrington back up 5-4.

Danville, which beat Arlington on Wednesday with a ninth-inning surge, did it again to Barrington. Danville forged ahead thanks to a pair of home runs, the second of which was a 2-run blast to pull ahead to stay with a 7-5 lead.

Edwardsville scored 5 runs in the second inning to roll past Arlington (23-11-1) and send Arlington home from the tournament.

Arlington had hits from Riley Rundquist, Paul Tokar, Tyler Rundquist and Brendan O'Brien. They scored their only run in the eighth inning when Tyler Rundquist scored on Grant Whitebloom's groundout.
