Demo derby serves as crescendo to DuPage Fair

The DuPage County Fair ended its five-day run Sunday with a bang.

Many of them, actually.

Crowds of people looking to see cars crash into each other got their wish during two demolition shows - one in the afternoon and another in the evening.

Demolition derby driver James Moore of Lombard who made it to the championship said "I do it for fun, I don't even do it for the money. It started off as a bad habit when I was 15."

Moore won the Kane County demolition derby the past two years and had placed third and second during the DuPage County Fair contest over the past few years.

The derby capped off five days at the county fairgrounds in Wheaton that included a rodeo, carnival rides and festival food.

Pigs, goats, cows, rabbits and other animals competed for ribbons. The animals are one of the many ways the county fair educates families about farming and DuPage's agricultural roots.

Another educational component of the fair was Ag-Ventureland. The area was filled with farming-related exhibits, including blacksmithing, sheep shearing, wood carvers, antique tractors, corn grinding and milking demonstrations.
