Wonder Lake man killed in McHenry County crash

A Wonder Lake man was killed in a multivehicle crash Friday morning on Route 12 in unincorporated McHenry County near Richmond, authorities said.

Ernesto R. Silva, 28, died from injuries to his spine and aorta; toxicology tests are pending, according to the McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne L. Majewski.

McHenry County sheriff's deputies and the Richmond Fire Department arrived shortly before 6 a.m.

Silva's vehicle was traveling east on Route 12 when, according to a witness, it drifted into the westbound lane, striking two other vehicles before his car spun and landed against a guardrail, Majewski said.

Silva was extricated from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene at 6:01 a.m.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County sheriff's office accident investigation unit and the coroner's office.
