Jennings Terrace dedicates three new shelters at 59th annual ice cream fundraiser

Jennings Terrace retirement center in Aurora now has three new outdoor shelters, thanks to memorial donations and other contributors. A dedication ceremony for the shelters was held during Jennings' auxiliary's 59th annual ice cream social and book sale July 19 at the facility at 275 S. LaSalle St.

"This new shade replaced some large trees that were lost on the property over the past two years," said Diane Beukelman, Jennings' development director.

A memorial plaque says in "Loving memory of Andrew and Margaree Smith, Ruth Wagner, Ed and Gladys Arenkill, William 'Bill' Deisher, Elva Balluf, Vernon and Lorene Wood, Eddie and Marion Cooper, Christopher Welsh and Jacque and Dorothy Thomas."

Listed in appreciation for the structures are Jennings Terrace Auxiliary, Terrace memorial and capital improvement funds, Terrace 2015-2016 car show and sponsors Law Elder Law, Fox Valley Powder Coating, and Kleckner Siding and Windows.

The social featured homemade cakes, coffee and lemonade and vocal and accordion music by Aurora resident Jerry May.

Other highlights included a used book sale, 50/50 cash raffle and a drawing for more than 50 scratch-off Illinois lottery tickets.

Proceeds will benefit residents of Jennings Terrace. Call (630) 897-6947 for more information.
