Man ticketed in St. Charles boating crash

A West Chicago man has been charged with careless operation of a watercraft in connection with a crash last week in St. Charles in which a woman was severely injured.

Jared Younglove, 27, of the 2500 block of Barnhart Street, was issued a citation and is due to appear at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 in Kane County Branch Court in St. Charles, police said.

Younglove was driving a Sea-Doo Sportster jet boat across the Fox River around 11:10 p.m. Thursday when he hit an Ebbtide boat, according to police. One of the passengers, 33-year-old Kathryn Gazzola of Downers Grove, was thrown into the river.

According to a Youcaring.com page, "Katie's Team," set up for Gazzola, her right leg was amputated above the knee. The page seeks to raise at least $10,000 for Gazzola, who works in a hospital emergency department and is studying nursing.
