Hornets promote Buzz Peterson to assistant GM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Hornets have promoted Buzz Peterson to assistant general manager.

Peterson, 54, has spent the past five seasons with the Hornets organization, serving most recently as the senior adviser to basketball operations. Peterson played college basketball at North Carolina with Hornets owner Michael Jordan. They were college roommates and remain close friends.

Peterson replaces Chad Buchanan, who was hired this offseason by the Indiana Pacers.

Hornets general manager Rich Cho says in a release Peterson "brings a wide breadth of basketball knowledge to the position, having been involved in the game at various levels for close to three decades."

During his time with the Hornets, Peterson has been involved in various aspects of basketball operations, including pro personnel evaluation, NBA free agency, collegiate scouting and the NBA draft process.
