Set aside passions to fill trustee vacancy
Mundelein continues to be divided by the 2017 local election. Some call it the battle of the 50 percent (give or take). We were all impassioned by our candidates of choice. There was disappointment or joy on all sides.
The recent trustee opening has inflamed those passions once again. There is a clamor on all sides to fill that opening with unelected candidates from the 2017 election.
Those sentiments, even though they are well meaning, will continue to divide our community even more. As impassioned as we all are about our 2017 election candidates, we need to unite our community, not continue to divide it.
The harsh reality is: If the trustee slot is filled by ANY candidate from the 2017 election, our community will become even more inflamed and divided by our passions and loyalties for our favorite former candidate(s). The 2017 election is over and the continued outcry hurts our community.
To heal and bring us all back together we need to consider qualified, non-2017 election candidates who are also impassioned about our community and will dedicate themselves to the vision, continued progress, and betterment of Mundelein. As a community we need to do this right, not hastily.
We need to set our election passions aside. We, as a community, need to wisely use the 60 allotted days to find the person who will aid in uniting us not dividing us.
I'm speaking as a resident with my own personal opinions. However, in full disclosure I am also a Mundelein trustee. In my trustee role, I will do everything in my power to bring Mundelein together and stronger than ever before. In my resident role I ask that we put aside our differences and do what is truly right to end the disharmony and not make it worse.
