GiGi's Playhouse social media campaign reaches 1 million
Hoffman Estates-based GiGi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers this week reached Day 100 of its "321 Days of Acceptance" social media campaign that aims to introduce others to someone with Down syndrome every day for more than 10 months.
After a visual introduction, followers learn about each person's life and how similar they are to their peers without Down syndrome.
The campaign has officially reached more than 1 million fans and followers.
Day 100 was marked by featuring the organization's global ambassador and namesake, GiGi Gianni, who recently started her own public Facebook page.
The campaign is part of the GiGi's Playhouse "Generation G" movement for global acceptance.
"We are so humbled and grateful for the overwhelming response to this campaign so far," said Nancy Gianni of South Barrington, the organization's founder and GiGi's mom.
"We've only just begun, but what we really need are more corporations and communities to do more than view a Facebook post," she said. "We need them to share and support this campaign! Just because our kids and adults succeed in Playhouse programs does not mean society will value what they offer as students, volunteers, co-workers and friends. We need genuine acceptance for our kids and adults each and every day."
