Garden Club of Inverness installs new officers

The formal club year of the Garden Club of Inverness closed with its annual spring luncheon at the Inverness Golf Club. After remarks from President Shirley Putman, new officers were installed and the 2017-18 board was introduced.

Officers are: Shirley Putman, president; Mary Rubino, first vice-president; Susan Erickson, recording secretary; Nancy Stacy, corresponding secretary; Linda Denison, treasurer; Diane Garcea, director.

Committee chairs are: Jeanne Martin, holiday luncheon; Mary Kay Bowman, hospitality; Nancy Kaye, membership; Holly Bowen, publicity; Sally Hard, scholarship; Melodie Moroney, village gardens; Cecilia Schenkemeyer, garden therapy; Pam MacGillivray, webmaster.

The members and guests were delighted to learn that, due to the success of this year's holiday luncheon and the generosity of its attendees, $2,000 scholarships were presented to five college students: Cindy Aquilera-Navarro, Daniel Anderson, Jack Buban, Max Carver and Bradley Hamilton.

Following the business meeting the guests were treated to lunch.

The club's next meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine. For information, visit www.gardenclubofinverness.com.
